The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for Substitute and Part Time Custodial Workers. First, second & third shifts for custodial workers are either Part Time (up to 5 hours/day) or Full Time (up to 8 hours/day) or Substitute (encompassing either shift). Salary as per the collective bargaining unit agreement currently at: $12.00/hour for substitute, $13.27/hour for part time, and $18.99/hour for full time custodians.
ALL positions at the WASD have a minimum requirement of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Basic Functions:
This position initiates and performs functions, routines, and duties necessary to provide a safe, clean, and inviting physical environment that supports the educational/ learning process for students and staff in all District buildings.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
This position requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and a proficiency in computer related programs such as Microsoft Word processing and other maintenance related programs. This position requires the ability to become familiar with monitoring (reading) valves and switches on equipment related to electricity, water, gas, sewage treatment, swimming pools, etc. This position requires the ability to monitor and schedule building automatic temperature control, and programmable lighting systems for day use, after hours event scheduling, and unoccupied periods. This position requires an ability to assist skilled maintenance professionals (carpenters, plumbers, electricians, roofers, and tinners).
This position requires the ability to work independently and the ability to be self-motivated.
This position requires the ability to communicate with employees at of all levels and maintain a positive attitude with all employees, parents, students, and other individuals utilizing District buildings.
This position requires a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Authority & Responsibilities: [(E) Designates Essential Functions]
- Performs all cleaning duties as assigned. (E)
- Prepares building for daily operations;
- Cleans and disinfects classrooms, small group areas, office areas, etc.;
- Cleans and disinfects cafeterias, restrooms, and locker rooms;
- Restocks bathroom supplies daily (toilet paper, paper towels, soap dispensers, etc.);
- Cleans hallways;
- Cleans ceiling louvers and univent intakes and outtakes;
- Cleans and sanitizes water fountains
- Removes graffiti as needed;
- Removes trash;
- Appropriately cleans up spills, vomit, and body fluids as needed;
- Maintains carpeted areas including vacuuming, shampooing, and extracting;
- Cleans windows;
- Strips and seals floors as needed;
- Maintains cleaning equipment according to guidelines;
- Monitors building conditions such as freezers, coolers, pool, heating and air conditioning;
- Performs all other cleaning functions as instructed.
- Performs wall/door preparation and painting duties as assigned. (E)
- Monitors interior and exterior lighting and makes repairs as needed. (E)
- Performs grounds keeping duties (mowing, tree trimming, litter clean up, etc.). (E)
- Operates tools and small equipment related to lawn work, snow removal, cleaning, minor repairs, etc. (E)
- Drives trucks (non CDL), tractors, and mowers as necessary. (E)
- Sets up and works from ladders and scaffolding as necessary. (E)
- Works with staff and administration to plan and set up events. (E)
- Completes building checks and inspections related to security, cleaning, boilers, chiller plants, playground equipment, roofs etc. (E)
- May assist with traffic control and parking for events and daily operations. (E)
- Assists with receiving and delivering supplies. (E)
- Assists with snow removal. (E)
- Completes repair requests and submits to the Head Custodian. (E)
- Maintains confidentiality of all business related information. (E)
- Performs other related functions as directed by the Assistant Supervisor of Facilities & Maintenance Operations, Supervisor of Facilities & Maintenance Operations and his/her designee.
Physical Requirements:
VERY HEAVY- Exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Position requires the following physical movements: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and handling objects.
This position requires the ability to work form ladders and scaffolding as necessary.
Auditory and Visual Requirements:
Within normal ranges with or without correction.
Equipment Used:
Position requires the use of cleaning equipment, hand tools, power machinery/tools, and vehicles.
Exposures/Hazards:
Position requires exposure to weather, contact with water and/or other liquids, exposure to chemicals used for cleaning and other custodial duties.
