The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for anticipated, Full-time Water Safety Aide position for the 2026-27 school year. This position is open to applicants with or without a degree, location is Williamsport Area High School; subject to the determination of the Superintendent. Position is 7 hour/185 day, during the school day, prorated, and is subject to the minimum requirements listed on the Job Description which include, but are not limited to, a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. REQUIRED active certifications: Lifeguard; CPR for the Professional Rescuer; A.E.D.; First Aid; Other active certifications: Water Safety Instructor; Water Safety Instructor Trainer; Lifeguard Instructor; Disease Transmission Prevention Training. Qualifications for this position shall be based upon applicable verified work experience and verified educational/training/credentials. An assessment may be required for this position. Candidate must be willing to become certified in Safety-Care QBS. Qualifications for this position are defined solely by the District, including an employee’s work attendance, disciplinary history, credentials and other job specific qualifications. Wages are as defined by the current bargaining unit agreement.

Position Summary
The Aquatics Lifeguard/Health and Physical Education Support staff member supports the school’s aquatics, health, and physical education programs by assisting with swim instruction, ensuring a safe aquatic environment, supervising pool activities, and maintaining aquatic facilities and equipment. This position plays a vital role in promoting water safety, responding to emergencies, supporting student learning, and assisting with the daily operation of the aquatic facility and health/physical education classrooms.
Job-Specific Assignments:
- Assist the certified physical education teacher with student instruction in basic aquatic safety skills and introductory swim strokes.
- Provide lifeguard supervision during physical education aquatic units, and other approved pool activities.
- Enforce all pool rules, safety procedures, and facility guidelines established by Williamsport Area High School.
- Open, secure, and monitor pool facilities by locking and unlocking pool/locker room doors as needed.
- Launder, organize, inventory, and maintain school-issued swimsuits, swim caps, and other aquatic equipment utilized by department.
- Inspect, maintain, and organize safety equipment located on the pool deck and report any concerns promptly.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Pool Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and assume leadership responsibilities during emergency situations.
- Serve as a leader and role model in promoting safe practices, positive behaviors, and responsible decision-making in and around the aquatic environment.
- Maintain appropriate supervision and security of the locker rooms during aquatic classes and activities.
- Report any unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, facility issues, injuries, or disturbances within the pool area to the High School Principal and/or designated administrator.
- When physical education classes are not utilizing the pool, assist Health and Physical Education teachers in supporting student needs, supervising classroom activities, monitoring student behavior, and facilitating instructional tasks as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the health and physical education programs at Williamsport Area High School.
