The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for a Full Time Equipment Manager/Custodian.  The position is based at Williamsport Area High School; subject to the determination of the Superintendent. This position requires a High School Diploma and valid Drivers License. Knowledge of the various sports offered by the District and the equipment needed for participants and knowledge of the various sports for which equipment and supplies are provided.  This position requires the ability to effectively follow oral and written instructions and to work independently and the ability to be self-motivated.  This position requires an ability to assist, when necessary, head custodians, custodians and/or maintenance professionals. Qualifications for this position shall be based upon applicable verified work experience and verified educational/training/credentials.  An assessment is not required for this position.  Qualifications for this position are defined solely by the District which; for internal candidates, includes an employee’s work attendance, disciplinary history, credentials and other job specific qualifications.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Basic Functions:

 

The equipment manager / custodian for athletics reports to the high school principal of the Williamsport Area High School (WAHS).  This position requires the organization and maintenance of all athletic supplies and equipment for distribution to Williamsport Area School District coaches.  This position also requires working with all Williamsport Area Middle and Highs School (WAMS and WAHS) athletic teams.  This position also performs functions, routines and duties necessary to provide a safe, clean and inviting physical environment that supports educational and athletic processes and/or events for students and staff in various District buildings/locations. 

 

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

This position requires knowledge of the various sports offered by the District and the equipment needed for participants and knowledge of the various sports for which equipment and supplies are provided.  This position requires the ability to effectively follow oral and written instructions and to work independently and the ability to be self-motivated.  This position requires an ability to assist, when necessary, head custodians, custodians and/or maintenance professionals. 

 

This position requires the ability to communicate with employees at of all levels and maintain a positive attitude with all employees, parents, students, and other individuals utilizing District buildings.

 

This position requires a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

 

Authority & Responsibilities:

[(E) Designates Essential Functions] 

  1. Issuing equipment and maintaining complete and accurate records of all equipment issued to the individual boy or girl in each sport. (E) 
  1. Maintaining a list to be submitted to the athletic director, and through him/her, to the principal, of any equipment lost or stolen, and being paid for by that individual to whom it was issued. (E) 
  1. Maintaining a complete inventory before and after each sport season and submitting a copy of the inventory to the athletic director, with an account of all missing equipment. (E) 
  1. Training and supervising student managers, of all sports, in their duties and obligations in the care of the equipment. (E) 
  1. Caring for all athletic equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, fitting, repairing, and maintaining in good operating condition. (E) 
  1. Completing all laundry tasks for athletic teams, including but not limited to (E)
  2. Washing game uniforms, hanging them to dry, and putting them away when finished with the process.
  1. Washing practice equipment/supplies during the season and after the season when inventory is returned to the school.

 7.   Caring for and setting up all mechanical apparatus, as needed, by the different interscholastic sports. (E) 

  1. Assisting in the lining and caring for all athletic fields within the school district (WAHS, WAMS, Balls Mills Soccer Complex, Baseball Complex, other District Complexes) in conjunction with the maintenance/custodial staff when needed. (E) 
  1. Attending and working as mat crew leader for all wrestling tournaments at WAHS, to include the Top Hat Tournament along with PIAA District and Regional wrestling tournaments. (E) 
  1. Attending and working all home track and field meets for both WAMS and WAHS. (E)
    1. Set-up & Take-down of all home track and field meets for WAHS & WAMS, to include the FAT System care and maintenance. 
  1. Attending and working at all home and away football games, driving the school equipment truck to all away football games. (E)
    1. This includes set-up and take-down of football equipment and supplies. 
  1. Working with maintenance staff to maintain and operate the Balls Mills Soccer Complex and/or other district athletic complexes. (E) 
  1. Performs all cleaning duties as assigned. (E)
    1. Prepares district athletic areas and facilities for daily operations, including outside facilities and/or athletic fields
    2. Cleans and disinfects assigned areas, including restrooms and locker rooms;
    3. Restocks bathroom supplies daily (toilet paper, paper towels, soap dispensers, etc.);
    4. Cleans and sanitizes water fountains
    5. Removes graffiti as needed;
    6. Removes trash;
    7. Appropriately cleans up spills, vomit, and body fluids as needed;
    8. Maintains carpeted areas including vacuuming, shampooing, and extracting;
    9. Cleans windows;
    10. Strips and seals floors as needed;
    11. Maintains cleaning equipment according to guidelines;
    12. Performs all other cleaning functions as instructed. 
  1. Performs wall/door preparation and painting duties as assigned (E) 
  1. Monitors interior and exterior lighting and makes repairs as needed. (E) 
  1. Performs grounds keeping duties (mowing, tree trimming, litter clean up, etc.). (E) 
  1. Operates tools and small equipment related to lawn work, snow removal, cleaning, minor repairs, etc. (E) 
  1. Drives trucks (non CDL), tractors, and mowers as necessary. (E) 
  1. Sets up and works from ladders and scaffolding as necessary. (E) 
  1. Works with staff and administration to plan and set up events. (E) 
  1. Completes building checks and inspections related to security, cleaning, boilers, chiller plants, playground equipment, roofs etc. (E) 
  1. May assist with traffic control and parking for events and daily operations. (E) 
  1. Assists with receiving and delivering supplies. (E) 
  1. Assists with snow removal. (E) 
  1. Completes repair requests and submits to the Head Custodian. (E) 
  1. Maintains confidentiality of all business-related information. (E) 
  1. Performs other related functions as directed by the Principal, Athletic Director, Supervisor(s) of Custodial and/or Facilities & Maintenance, and his/her designee. 

Physical Requirements:

VERY HEAVY- Exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Position requires the following physical movements:  climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and handling objects.

 

This position requires the ability to work form ladders and scaffolding as necessary.

 

Auditory and Visual Requirements:

Within normal ranges with or without correction.

 

Equipment Used:

Position requires the use of cleaning equipment, hand tools, power machinery/tools, athletic equipment/supplies, and District vehicles.

 

Exposures/Hazards:

Position requires exposure to weather, contact with water and/or other liquids, exposure to chemicals used for cleaning and other custodial duties.
