GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Basic Functions:

This position is responsible for the security services related to the protection of all students, staff, visitors and property.

 

Education & Experience:

Requires a minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent).  Previous experience as policeman, fireman, or security officer preferred.  Experience in utilizing effective non-violent crisis intervention and restraint techniques, anger management and conflict resolution skills.  Previous experience directing traffic in high pedestrian areas.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

This position requires the ability to act independently, handle emergency situations and adjust to changes in the environment.

This position requires the ability to communicate with employees at of all levels and maintain a positive attitude with all employees, parents, students, and other individuals utilizing District buildings.

This position requires a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and reliable transportation.

 

Authority & Responsibilities:  [(E) Designates Essential Functions]

  1. Moves throughout the building and school grounds to monitor and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry onto school property.  (E)
  2. Conducts daily area inspections of doors, windows and gates to determine that they are secure and monitors areas for security violations.  (E)
  3. Patrols school grounds to ensure compliance with parking rules and security of vehicles.  (E)
  4. Monitors and directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic. (E)
  5. Checks external lighting and emergency access routes.  (E)
  6. Initiates procedures to report security violations, parking/traffic violations, and any other unusual activity.  As necessary, consults with building administrators regarding citations and writes/files such citations according to procedure. Maintains records in accordance with school policy.  (E)
  7. Reports any observed conditions that may reflect malfunctions related to heating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
  8. Effectively utilizes non-violent crisis intervention and restraint techniques, anger management and conflict resolution skills as necessary.
  9. Monitors the school environment throughout the building and initiates appropriate action when a threat to the environment exists.  (E)
  10. Ensures that the vehicle utilized by school personnel for transporting students and other school related activities is fueled and appropriately maintained so it is accessible when needed.  (E)
  11. Monitor entry of school visitors before allowing individuals to enter the school building.  (E)
  12. May be required to use district vehicle to transact school business (transporting students, bank runs, etc.). (E)
  13. Maintains confidentiality of all business related information. (E)
  14. Performs other related functions as directed by the building principal and/or Supervisor of Maintenance and Facility Operations and/or designee.

Physical Requirements:

HEAVY- Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

This position may involve the controlling of others—seizing, holding, controlling and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive or physically threatening persons to defend self or prevent injury.  Body strength and agility of all four limbs is required.

This position requires the ability to move throughout the building (all floors) and throughout the district property/grounds.

 

Auditory and Visual Requirements:

Within normal ranges with or without correction.

 

Equipment Used:

Office equipment such as computers, fax machines, telephones, copiers, etc.

 

Exposures/Hazards:

Position requires exposure to weather.
