The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for a Full Time General Maintenance.  The position is District Wide, subject to the determination of the Superintendent.  Position is 8 hours per day, 250 days per school year.  Job requirements as listed below to include a minimum of high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; Two years of verifiable experience in the building construction trades. A written assessment with a passing score of 70% or higher is also required for this position. See job description below for more information.  Salary and health/dental/life insurance benefits are as per current bargaining unit agreement.

Basic Functions:

This position is responsible for the performance of general maintenance and the upkeep of school buildings, equipment, and grounds with some minimal requirement for new construction.

 

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two years of verifiable work experience in the building construction trades is required.  Three years of verifiable work experience in a specific trade field is required, if applicable.  Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, if job assignment is a specific trade requiring these skills.   

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

This position requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and the ability to work independently and the ability to be self-motivated.  The ability to receive a passing score on a written assessment is also required.  This position requires knowledge and use of hand and power tools and equipment.  The position requires the ability to handle, measure, and mix chemicals.  The position requires the ability to work from heights on equipment such as various step ladders, extension ladders, scaffolding, man lifts and aerial lifts as needed to perform necessary job functions.  The position requires the ability to monitor readings on valves and switches on equipment related to electric, water, gas, etc. and the equipment used in the performance of maintenance duties.  This position also requires the knowledge of conventional and geothermal heat pump systems, building energy management controls systems including direct digital controls, and balancing of hydronic ventilation systems.  This position, if the job assignment includes sewage treatment plant maintenance and monitoring, requires certification as a Sewage Treatment Plant Operator (Class E3S). 

 

This position requires the ability to communicate with employees at of all levels and maintain a positive attitude with all employees, parents, students, and other individuals utilizing District buildings.

 

This position requires a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. 

 

Authority & Responsibilities:

  1. Uses various types of maintenance and construction tools such as: torches, air hammers, impact hammers, power saws, auguring tools, power drills, grinders, and other hand tools.  (E) 
  1. Drives trucks, backhoes, loaders, tractors, mowers, and other vehicles and equipment used in transport, soil excavation, pick-up and delivery; cindering and salting; and snow removal. (E) 
  1. Digs ditches and trenches, spreads topsoil and seed, spreads limestone and asphalt in repair of the roadways, landscapes and prunes shrubbery and is able to operate various tools and machinery used in performing these duties. (E) 
  1. Performs preventative maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc…(E) 
  1. Performs minor and major repairs of building structural and equipment issues. (E) 
  1. Repairs electrical equipment, clocks, lighting and control circuits (E) 
  1. Maintains refrigeration equipment (E) 
  1. Repair and/or replace broken windows, doors, door locksets, lockers, and installs window blinds (E) 
  1. Makes adjustments, repairs and replacement as necessary to restroom sanitary fixtures and appliances, sanitary sewer, grease traps, and central kitchen systems and appliances (E) 
  1. Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures. (E) 
  1. May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed. (E) 
  1. Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; paints building structures (E) 
  1. Responds to emergency after-hours maintenance requests and overtime as required. (E) 
  1. Works with administrators and other staff to plan and complete special projects. (E) 
  1. Moves equipment, furniture, supplies. (E) 
  1. Paints building interiors/exteriors. (E) 
  1. Works from heights on equipment such as various step ladders, extension ladders, scaffolding, man lifts and aerial lifts. (E) 
  1. Maintains a clean work environment and follows housekeeping and safety including but not limited to District vehicles. (E) 
  1. Works with administration and staff to complete special projects. (E) 
  1. Drives trucks (CDL and non CDL) and related equipment as necessary. (E) 
  1. Operates, troubleshoots, and repairs various items of mechanical equipment, including pneumatic and building management control devices. (E) 
  1. Operate a computer which controls, schedules, and monitors mechanical equipment, including pneumatic and building management control devices. (E) 
  1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics. (E) 
  1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.(E) 
  1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees. (E) 
  1. Maintains confidentiality of all business related information. (E) 
  1. Performs other related functions as directed by the Assistant Supervisor of Facilities & Maintenance Operations, Supervisor of Facilities & Maintenance Operations and his/her designee. 

 

Physical Requirements:

VERY HEAVY- Exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Position requires the following physical movements:  climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and handling objects.

 

Position requires the ability to work from heights on equipment such as various step ladders, extension ladders, scaffolding, man lifts and aerial lifts.

 

Auditory and Visual Requirements:

Within normal ranges with or without correction. 

 

Equipment Used:

Position requires the use construction tools such as: torches, air hammers, impact hammers, power saws, auguring tools, power drills, grinders, and other hand tools. 

 

Position requires the use of equipment utilized in landscaping.
